World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker is a televised tournament that goes on for days. People enter the tournament and gradually players are eliminated until it is down to a table of six people. The WSOP has been played for over a decade and is considered entertaining to watch on television. Winners of the World Poker Series end up taking home a grand prize in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Not everyone can qualify for this tournament. The tournament is open by invitations.  Those who have played a formidable game of poker in the past and who have passed elimination contests can join the tournament. Not everyone who enters the game will win. Strategies to get into the World Series of Poker include the following:

Start Small

You will not go from playing in a poker game with your buddies to winning the World Poker Series. You have to work your way up by starting small. Playing poker with your friends is one way to learn strategies of the game and the basic concept of poker. However, you have to continue to strive to be a better player if you are to make it to the WSOP. Start with a local tournament that is held for charity and which there is not a large cash prize and then move on to bigger and better things.

Play In Vegas

Las Vegas has just about every type of game that you can imagine. One of the nicest things about playing poker in Vegas is that there are tables with small limits.  You can learn to play with strangers by playing table poker in Las Vegas for money.  The more you play, the more confident that you will be. You can then move on to a larger tournament.

Subscribe To Trade Magazines

Find the poker trade magazines and subscribe to them. In order to get to the World Poker Series, you are going to have to learn as much as you can about different tournaments, players and strategies. By subscribing to a magazine, you can learn many different things about poker and about getting in to the World Poker Series. 

Watch On Television

Do not watch the World Series of Poker on television for amusement, but to learn the strategies of the other players. If possible, tape the series and then watch it over, now that you know who the winner is. Observer his demeanor during the game and his strategies and copy them. Even professionals who are on top of their game acknowledge that they can learn a thing or two still about poker. So can you. Watch the game and especially the winners.

You can work your way up to the WSOP if you continue to strive towards this goal.  Once you have a couple of tournaments under your belt, you can then prepare to enter the World Series of Poker. Do not expect to win on your first try, although stranger things have happened. Look at each tournament that you enter as a learning example as well as a way to earn some money. Not just the winner of the World Series of Poker wins money, many others also cash out.
